In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Chelsea are leading the race to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been mentioned that the Blues are eager to get a deal done for the English talent next year.
Wharton has enjoyed a good run of form at the London club as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 21-year-old has featured in 15 matches for the Eagles this season, securing one assist in the process across all fronts.
The English sensation has anchored the midfield well and has done well to make 12 tackles, six blocks, eight interceptions and ten clearances in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 75.9% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Blues to sign him on the cheap next year.

Wharton is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from midfield.
The English midfield ace can even strike the ball with power from long range and is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. Wharton is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if told to do so. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at Chelsea.
We can expect Wharton to add more bite and steel to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the West London club.
At 21, Wharton has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, Maresca would be wise to go for a player of his quality next year.
