OL Lyonnes avoided holders Barcelona and will face Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan, Häcken and Servette Geneva in the Women’s Champions League league phase.

The draw for the opening phase was made at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, at lunchtime on Friday, according to Le Progres. OL Lyonnes learned their six opponents from an 18-club field.

From pot one, they drew Chelsea at Groupama Stadium, led by former Lyon boss Sonia Bompastor. They will also travel to Arsenal, opponents in last season’s league phase and semi-final.

Pot two brings Häcken at home and an away trip to Juventus. From pot three, they avoided Manchester City, the reigning English champions, instead drawing Inter Milan in Lyon and Servette Geneva away, close to Lyon.

At first glance, the fixture list looks within their reach despite two English sides and two ties to negotiate against Italian opposition. The Swedes and the Swiss should not cause too many problems.

Each team plays three at home and three away, six matches in total, two fewer than the men. The top four go straight to the quarter-finals, teams placed five to 12 enter play-offs, and the bottom six are eliminated.

The calendar will be finalised on Saturday once clubs’ specific requests are accounted for. Matchday one is scheduled for 22 and 23 September. After Oslo last season, the final will be held in late May at the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw.
