Chelsea captain Reece James (25) insists his side have the quality, conviction and ambition to challenge for every major trophy this season, despite external doubts over the squad’s youth and inexperience.

Speaking after the Blues’ impressive 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal, the England defender said Chelsea’s display, which saw them dominate large spells and create the better chances, demonstrated just how far Enzo Maresca’s side have progressed.

“We’ve had a lot of doubters, a lot of people talking about our squad, saying we’re young and inexperienced on a regular basis,” James told Sky Sports. “People call Arsenal the ‘best team in the world’ – we went toe-to-toe with them and we’re disappointed we didn’t win. That says a lot about how far we’ve come and what we want to achieve together.”

James, who has returned to form and fitness after a turbulent spell on the sidelines, believes the mentality within the dressing room has shifted, with the squad now targeting more than steady improvement.

“We want to go for everything, every competition we’re in,” he added. “We believe we have the squad, and an amazing manager. We’ll do our best to achieve everything.”

Chelsea remain firmly in the Premier League title race and continue to compete on multiple fronts, with James’ rallying message echoing the growing confidence around Stamford Bridge.
