Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Ajax defender Jorrel Hato.

The 19-year-old has already agreed on personal terms, with Chelsea expected to pay more than €40million (£34.8m) to take the Netherlands international to west London.

Hato, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, is a versatile defender who can play as both a left-back and a centre-back.

He has made 111 appearances for Ajax and played predominantly as a left-back last season.

As Standard Sport previously reported, Chelsea are keen to provide competition for left-back Marc Cucurella and have identified Hato as a key target.

Hato, capped six times by the Netherlands, would continue a busy summer for the Blues, following the arrivals of the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens.

RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons is also closing in on a move to Chelsea, with the two clubs negotiating a fee for the 22-year-old.

Chelsea are also looking to offload players and have already sanctioned the departures of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic.

The Blues have agreed a £43.7m deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr for the sale of Joao Felix, and the Portuguese midfielder is set to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a two-year contract.

Chelsea have enjoyed an extended break following their Club World Cup triumph earlier this month.

They return for pre-season with two friendlies at home to Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan next weekend, before they begin their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace.
