We’ve reached the final run of games of the season, and Chelsea still have a lot to play for. They’re in the FA Cup final, and they can decide their final Premier League place with some good results to close out the season.
Lots of people are already looking ahead to the summer, however, and that includes the Daily Mail, who did a classic round of “keep, loan or sell” this morning.
First up was Enzo Fernandez, perhaps the most interesting case of all given his comments about leaving a month ago, and the vast price north of £100m we paid for him.
Kieran Gill suggests that Chelsea should keep the midfielder, because they are a “better team with him than without him.”
That is dependent on them striking a new contract deal which “satisfies both Fernandez and Chelsea.” That’s a risky move. When you’ve got a player who has actively tried to move away and effectively gave up on his last manager, rewarding him with a raise is perhaps not the wisest idea.
However, knowing that no team is going to pay close to what we’d want for him, it may be best to just pay him off to try and get him onside again.
Mike Penders has the biggest game of his career tonight, but his development has already been really impressive and there are questions about where he will be next season.
Eidur Gudjohnsen spoke to the official Chelsea website this week about his time as a midfielder under Jose Mourinho.
