Chelsea could make big future fee on defender who is thriving after injury

While some of Chelsea’s loanees are doing really well this season, there were others we were starting to get worried about. One of those was Aaron Anselmino, who had a bright start to life at Dortmund but then suffered a series of really frustrating injury setbacks which prevented him from playing nearly as much as he could in the last few months.
He’s back now though – he played the full game for Dortmund in the Champions League last midweek against Villareal, picking up an assist and a clean sheet in the win over Villareal. He then got another start on Saturday night, this time in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored the winner.

Simon Phillips’ Tweet about Aaron Anselmino.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Dortmund are now interested in buying him again. Their sporting director Sebastian Kehl said as much after the game:
“I will have to pick up the phone in the next few days and will certainly call them,” the suit said after the important win for his team.
“We hope that Aarón will stay on, of course. We have a very good connection with Chelsea.”
We can very much see that happening – but only at the right price. We would probably let him go for a pretty reasonable fee with a chunky sell on (and maybe a buy back clause), knowing how good Dortmund are at making big profits in players they develop.
A big question for Enzo Maresca in his presser this week was whether he would continue using Reece James in midfield, and he explained his logic for that quite well.
Maresca also suggested a very interesting team tweak while Moises Caicedo is out – we really hope we see this in at least one game.
