Alejandro Garnacho was not expensive by the standards of Premier League attackers, but nobody should expect it to be easy to sell him this summer.

Bobby Vincent’s piece for Football.London yesterday speculated that the winger could be for sale this summer if he doesn’t improve his performances.

It’s true that he’s not pulled up any trees since arriving from Manchester United last summer, and most fans would rather see him depart and the club roll the dice on another winger. In fact, most fans didn’t want him in the first place.

Garnacho’s value only falling through poor season

However one thing we would take issue with is how easy he thinks it would be to break even or make money on Garnacho.

It’s true that the £40m we paid is a modest price by the standards of top Premier League teams, and is certainly cheap compared to the value that would have been put on him a couple of years ago. But the same bad performances which are leading to rumours about him leaving right away are going to put teams off paying even that.

Teams aren’t stupid, and if they see us trying to sell they’re not going to come in with a £50m offer. If they were willing to pay that much, they would have just bought him from Man U a year ago, before the Argentine booked another poor season.

Nobody should be expecting it will be easy to sell Garnacho this summer, if we decide to move on from him.

In other news…

Chelsea have just booked the biggest pre-tax losses in English football history, according to UEFA’s recently released data. However, there is some method to the madness.

Malo Gusto gave some great answers to questions about his teammates in an interview on the club’s official website this week.
