Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto has been linked with a move to Manchester City.
There is uncertainty surrounding Gusto’s future at Chelsea, after the club agreed a deal to sign Marco Palestra from Atalanta. Manager Xabi Alonso pushed for the Italian’s signature.
Gusto is now ready to join City, according to Footmercato. The Cityzens’ hierarchy has gotten the green light to open negotiations with Chelsea.
The potential move would see him reunite with Enzo Maresca, who is set to become the Cityzens’ new manager.
Gusto reportedly wants to reunite with Maresca, having enjoyed a good relationship with the Italian during his stay at Chelsea.
Maresca is also said to be ready to make the former Lyon full-back an important part of his project at City.
Man City have held a long-term interest in Gusto. Former manager Pep Guardiola wanted to sign him as part of his squad rebuild.
Chelsea have already slapped a £75 million asking price on the France international, as he still has four years left on his contract.
City want to sign a new right-back to compete with Mateus Nunes for a starting berth.
The Portugal international, naturally a midfielder, was their first-choice right-back last season. He impressed in the role, helping City win the FA Cup and the Football League Cup.
Gusto would provide strong competition for Nunes, being a natural right-back and considering his relationship with Maresca.
The Lyon academy graduate is currently with the France squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing cover for Jules Kounde. He has made two appearances at the tournament.
