Juventus are satisfied with what Renato Veiga has given them since joining temporarily from Chelsea in January, but they face an uphill climb to retain him. The defender got regular minutes under Thiago Motta thanks to some injuries and versatility. Then, the arrival of Igor Tudor and the switch to a three-man line, plus Federico Gatti sustaining a fibula fracture, made him indispensable.

According to Calciomercato, contrary to other loanees, whose future hinges on the Champions League qualification and especially on the coach, the main hurdle to keeping the Portuguese center-back is his price tag.

Chelsea and Juventus couldn’t concur on an option to buy in the original Veiga deal, settling for a simple formula. The Blues are open to selling him for the right offer. However, the early inquiries suggested they wanted close to €50M.

It’s unlikely the Bianconeri will spend that much for any defender. In the meantime, they’ll try to find a way to make sure he’ll stay with them for the entire duration of the Club World Cup.

Our Take on Juventus, Chelsea, and Veiga

He’s not been superb but surely very solid. In addition, he’s tailor-made to play in their present formation since he’s a fine ball-handler. He should have no trouble slotting next to Gleison Bremer eventually, as he’s mobile enough for the braccetto role. On the other hand, the valuation is a no-go even though he has an inherent advantage over other candidates since he has already acquired some familiarity. Still, when there’s mutual will, there’s generally a way in the transfer market.
