Chelsea ease past Charlton in Rosenior's first game | OneFootball

Liam Rosenior’s first game in charge of Chelsea ended in victory as the Blues comfortably beat Charlton Athletic Athletic 5-1 to book their place in the FA Cup fourth round.

The new head coach resisted the temptation to go full strength, instead rotating heavily and giving opportunities to a number of squad players and youngsters. Despite the changes, Chelsea were in control for much of the night and always looked capable of pulling clear.

The Addicks showed plenty of early energy in front of a packed Valley, but clear chances were hard to come by. At the other end, the Blues steadily turned the screw and worked goalkeeper Will Mannion repeatedly, only to be kept at bay until first-half stoppage time.

The breakthrough finally arrived when Jorrel Hato reacted quickest to a loose ball on the edge of the area and smashed a superb finish into the top corner to open the scoring.

The visitors picked up where they left off after the break and doubled their lead within five minutes. Tosin Adarabioyo met Facundo Buonanotte’s free-kick and guided his header past Mannion.

Nathan Jones' side briefly threatened a comeback when Miles Leaburn bundled home after Filip Jorgensen had made an initial save, lifting the home support. That hope didn’t last long, though, as Marc Guiu restored Chelsea’s two-goal cushion, turning in from close range after Mannion could only parry Buonanotte’s effort.

With the game opening up late on, the Premier League side added further gloss. Enzo Fernández slid a neat pass through for Pedro Neto to fire home a fourth, before Fernández himself rounded off the night by converting a stoppage-time penalty after Estêvão was brought down.

It was a composed first outing for Rosenior and a straightforward passage into the next round for Chelsea.
