Chelsea are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza, according to the Daily Mail.
The Blues are among those monitoring his progress ahead of a potential summer move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are expected to have a quieter window than in previous years. The West Londoners only need key additions in specific areas.
However, that has not stopped Chelsea from tracking the exciting Algerian playmaker, who had a promising debut campaign at Xabi Alonso’s former club.
Maza caught the eye, registering one key pass per game in 28 Bundesliga appearances. He bagged three goals and created eight big chances. He could have scored a lot more, but for his poor finishing.
The 20-year-old can operate in multiple midfield positions thanks to his brilliant technique, relentless work rate, and impressive football IQ.
Maza, who idolises Mesut Ozil, has been lauded for his outstanding technical abilities.
However, getting him won’t be straightforward for Chelsea as London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also interested in his services.
That said, Maza would be a brilliant replacement for Enzo Fernandez, especially in the advanced midfield role.
While he is not on the level of the Argentine yet, Chelsea could do a lot worse than Maza, who can develop into a world-beater.
Fernandez is reportedly pushing to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after getting frustrated with the club’s lack of progress.
While the wise thing to do would be to keep him, his desire to move could prevail, and Maza could do a brilliant job for the Blues.
If Chelsea somehow manage to hold on to Fernandez, he can form a terrific midfield triumvirate with Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
The young Berlin-born playmaker is one of the young players expected to dazzle on the world stage at the 2026 World Cup.
He could boost his valuation with some more eye-catching performances in the coming weeks.
