Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up the potential transfer of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has he impresses in the Premier League so far this season.

The talented 21-year-old is a former Manchester City youngster, so is someone Enzo Maresca and other key figures at Stamford Bridge know well as they start to monitor him as a potential target, according to journalist Simon Phillips via his Substack.

With Delap now making a name for himself at the very highest level after previously struggling for playing time at Man City and going out on loan to Championship clubs a few times, it’s not too surprising that a big name like Chelsea are now interested.

The Blues previously did very well to sign Cole Palmer from City when he’d also failed to make much of an impact in their first-team, with the 22-year-old now a star player for the west London giants and a full England international.

Liam Delap transfer could hinge on another Chelsea striker decision

Although Delap has his admirers at Chelsea, it is not yet certain if he’ll end up being a priority target for them any time soon, as there are other names also being considered.

CFC also like big names such as Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson, but Delap also seems like a name well worth keeping an eye on.

It’s also explained that Chelsea won’t necessarily rush into a striker signing, as it may depend on how the form of Nicolas Jackson continues over the course of this season.

The Senegalese youngster was inconsistent in his first campaign at the Bridge, but looks much improved this term, while Christopher Nkunku has also shone when he’s had the chance, having missed a lot of his first year at the club through injury.

Delap has impressed at Ipswich, though, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep up this form and earn himself a big move to Chelsea or perhaps another of the big six clubs.
