Chelsea fans may panic after exclusive outlines their transfer plan

Chelsea’s goalkeeper has been a major theme of this season for the club.

Last season it was more of a sub plot, with Robert Sanchez starting the year as first choice, proving to be a bit dodgy and then getting quietly replaced by Djordje Petrovic when he was injured. Once Sanchez recovered, he had lost his place and didn’t end up getting it back.

Things were reset in the summer – Sanchez was restored to number one, Filip Jorgensen brought in as his backup, and Petrovic loaned out to our sister club Strasbourg. But things didn’t work out at all – Sanchez was dropped again, this time after some more obvious errors and without even an injury to provide a smokescreen.

Jorgensen has come in, but made a big mistake against Aston Villa and doesn’t look much better or more reliable than Sanchez did. What a mess.

Chelsea summer doesn’t include goalkeeper plan

Filip Jorgensen makes a good save from Ollie Watkins.

All of this has made it seem inevitable that the Blues will go out and finally solve this ongoing issue by buying a new keeper. They’ve certainly spent enough in other areas. As recently as this morning, we reported on rumoured interest in Brighton goalie Bart Verbruggen, and there had also previously been an assumption that Petrovic would be sold.

But according to Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail, that’s not on their agenda. He reports that his source have sold him that all three senior keepers on our books, plus 19 year old Mike Penders, will compete to be number one.

There have been serious doubts about all of them at times, apart from Penders who has barely started playing senior football. If you tell fans that our first choice keeper next season will be one of Sanchez, Petrovic or Jorgensen, they might quite understandable be a little concerned.
