Chelsea favourite finally given the nod by Thomas Tuchel after long wait – he could be on the plane

International squads have gathered together over the last 24 hours, and there are always a few tweaks at this point.

Players who wanted to prove their commitment to their international coaches in a World Cup year always like to go and get checked by the national team doctors, just so there’s no doubts about them bunking off. Then, 24 hours later, at this point, they can get checked out and dismissed.

That’s just what’s happened to Marc Guehi, who has been sent back from England duty, where he’s been replaced by his old friend and teammate Trevoh Chalobah.

It felt harsh that Chalobah wasn’t already in the mix, and we expected him in both the last squad and this one given he’s established himself as first choice for Enzo Maresca while Levi Colwill is out. But Thomas Tuchel still didn’t pick him and it’s taken an injury for the 26 year old to get a chance.

Reece James is the only other Blue in Tuchel’s current squad – Cole Palmer faces a serious challenge to make his case for next summer with pretty much just club form alone once he returns to fitness in a few weeks.

Chalobah may only have just been called up, but with a lack of outstanding quality at centre back for England, surely has a decent chance of impressing and getting on the plane for next summer.

In other news…

In other international news, Pedro Neto has pulled out of the Portugal squad for a rest so he can manage his ongoing injury, just as we predicted yesterday.

Joe Shields is still apparently a believer in Ishe Samuels-Smith, who is finally starting to make an impact in the Championship on loan to Swansea after a difficult summer for the 19 year old.
