Diego Moreira’s sale from Strasbourg to AC Milan will benefit the Blues

Moreira, who joined Strasbourg from Chelsea in 2024, has completed a €71milllion (£60.9m) move to Serie A giants AC Milan after delivering four goals and six assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

The Rossoneri will pay an upfront fee of €50m (£42.8m), with €16m (£13.7m) in mostly achievable add-ons, a meaningful sell-on clause and a minimum guaranteed payout on any future sale.

The deal is a record sale for Strasbourg, Chelsea’s BlueCo sister club, and will see the west London club pocket a substantial profit on a player they signed from Benfica on a free transfer in 2023.

Eyebrows were raised when Chelsea sold Moreira to Strasbourg in 2024 for just £1.7m. However, it is understood that the Blues included a hefty sell-on clause, believed to be around 40 per cent, for the 22-year-old, from which they are now set to profit.

Moreira struggled to make an impact during his time at Chelsea, making just one senior appearance for the club. He started a Carabao Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon, but was hooked at half-time and replaced by Nicolas Jackson with the Blues trailing 1-0.

He also spent time on loan at French giants Lyon before making the permanent move to Strasbourg after just one year at Chelsea.

Since moving to Strasbourg, Moreira has rebuilt his career and has been capped four times by Belgium.

The pacy winger was part of Rudi Garcia’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, playing 57 minutes across six games as Belgium were knocked out by Spain in the quarter-finals.
