Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Kicker.
The 23-year-old has playedsecond fiddle to Robert Sanchez since he joined Chelsea and has made it clear he’s willing to leave the club in search of regular opportunities.
However, Chelsea are unwilling to sanction a mid-season move for the Danish goalkeeper. Jorgensen has mostly played in domestic cup competitions since he joined Chelsea.
He was Chelsea’s designated Europa Conference League goalkeeper last term and started in the final against Real Betis.
He made 24 appearances for Chelsea last season, but only six were in the Premier League. He also kept 10 clean sheets last term, but just one came in the Premier League.
Jorgensen has made seven appearances for Chelsea this season, but his performances have been unconvincing.
The Danish shot-stopper hasn’t done enough to prove he has what it takes to overthrow Sanchez in the battle for the number one spot.
Jorgensen is willing to explore his options and wants to bolster his chances of making Denmark’s World Cup squad.
He’s willing to do that away from Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are unwilling to put themselves in a position where they’ll have to find a replacement mid-season.
Leverkusen’s interest comes after first-choice goalkeeper Mark Flekken picked up a knee ligament injury that will keep him out for several weeks.
Jorgensen isn’t the only keeper on their radar, with the 2024 Bundesliga champions also looking at Manchester City duo Stefan Ortega and James Trafford.
Despite Jorgensen’s slew of comical errors, he still has plenty of admirers across Europe, but the Blues will not sanction a loan or permanent winter exit.
It will take a significant bid for the Blues to shift their stance, preferably more than the £20.7 million they paid to lure him away from Villarreal in 2024.
