According to ESPN Argentina, Chelsea have held talks with Julian Alvarez’s representatives, who were in the United Kingdom last week.
Chelsea are positioning for a summer move and view the Atletico Madrid forward as a potential first-choice striker from next season. Their spending record and a good recent relationship with Atleti suggest a deal could be possible.
Arsenal are also in the chase, but could be usurped by their London rivals Chelsea. Barcelona are long-standing admirers, yet their financial issues mean a Premier League return is considered more likely for the Argentina international.
Before this season, Atleti viewed Alvarez as untouchable. His current return, 11 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions, could raise doubts over a big-money move.
Atleti are under no obligation to sell after recent investment eased previous financial problems, so any bidder can expect to pay top dollar and face a difficult negotiation. For now, Alvarez remains an Atletico Madrid player.
