Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was disappointed with the defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, with the Portuguese coming out and claiming that the current team is the worst in the club’s history.
And INEOS seem to have sprung into action following the scathing remarks with the club initiating talks with Lecce for their promising defender Patrick Dorgu.
Apart from left wingback, the team is also crying out for a competent striker with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling in front of goal this campaign.
However, owing to PSR concerns, United can only sell to buy which is why they have put quite a few high-profile names up for sale.
An academy product moving on would constitute pure profit which is why the club is trying its best to move on Marcus Rashford, who has already declared his intention to leave his boyhood club.
A permanent exit is not expected in January with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund fighting over a loan deal. Which is why INEOS are also mulling over moving Alejandro Garnacho on in this window.
He was considered untouchable a few months ago but owing to Amorim’s arrival, the Argentine is no longer in the same bracket as he does not seem to be a natural fit in the new 3-4-3 system.
Napoli are the most interested party but so far the Serie A side have failed to match United’s asking price despite already agreeing personal terms.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have also made direct contact with United to understand what conditions they are asking for and more talks are expected in the coming days.
“Alejandro Garnacho situation remains open, doors are not closed ahead of final two weeks. Napoli keep pushing with Antonio Conte who had direct call with Garnacho on Friday.
“Chelsea made direct contact with Man United to ask for conditions, with more talks expected soon,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for the Argentine but as with Rashford, INEOS are unlikely to strengthen a direct domestic rival which means the Blues have very little chance of winning the race.
Antonio Conte’s team are the only plausible destination for the 20-year-old but a lot will depend on whether they can up their bid to satisfy INEOS. The player has no intention of jumping ship despite what the Italian media are claiming.
