Chelsea were not supposed to be signing anyone for a big fee this month, but last week rumours sprang up that Jeremy Jacquet of Rennes was a major target, and that the Blues would be going all out for him.
However the latest update, coming from Bobby Vincent of Football.London, isn’t as positive. He says that Chelsea are “locked in talks” with Rennes over the transfer, although “there has been no significant movement in the last couple of days.”
Liam Rosenior declined to answer questions about a potential deal in his press conference yesterday afternoon, not that there would be much to say.

Jeremy Jacquet close to signing for Chelsea according to Fabrizio Romano.
The French side apparently want to receive a club record fee of €70-80m. Chelsea obviously want to reduce that and spread it out. But at the moment, it’s hard to see how we can stretch our resources to find an agreement.
Even when the big names of Chelsea transfer talk like Fabrizio Romano and Ben Jacobs were piling in and claiming this was going to happen, we were wondering how it would be squared off financially. Romano said Chelsea had agreed personal terms – but those were never going to be the issue.
As it stands, we’re not surprised that there’s been no movement on bringing Jacquet in – until we see some players leave, we don’t expect that to change.
Rosenior also spoke about being a young manager – he says he’s the right man for the job, regardless of his age. We will find out soon enough.
Arda Guler is apparently a target for Chelsea now, although we can only see one way the funds and the space in the squad are made for him – and it wouldn’t be popular.
