Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca says Reece James and Cole Palmer will be assessed ahead of the game against Bournemouth to determine whether they can start.

Maresca is managing both players’ fitness during a busy schedule of fixtures, with Palmer having only recently returned from a long spell out with a groin injury.

“We need to see how they are tomorrow (Sunday) and then we can decide,” the Italian said on the duo.

The Blues boss also praised James for his recent performances, adding: “He’s doing very good, no matter which position he’s playing.

“I think he’s helping a lot. After the effort from tonight we need to see how he is for Tuesday, but again, we are happy that he’s fit.”

Meanwhile, Wesley Fofana was left on the bench for the defeat to Aston Villa last time out but Maresca says there is no injury concern and that it was “just to manage his fitness condition”.

But Jorrel Hato will miss out again with the injury he has sustained.

Marc Cucurella is also a doubt after going off with a hamstring issue against Villa, with Maresca saying he would need to be assessed after the game.

“Because he was complaining about hamstring, so we don’t know if it’s an injury now or not,” Maresca said when asked about taking Cucurella off. “So he asked for the change.”
