Palmer has struggled with injury problems this season and missed Wednesday’s 1-0 Champions League win over Pafos.

The 23-year-old has not looked fully fit for a while and his fitness is a concern ahead of some important games as Chelsea bid to build some momentum under Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday and then face a huge game away against Napoli in the Champions League next Wednesday, needing a win in Italy to seal a top-eight spot and automatic qualification to the knockout stage.

With that in mind, here’s the latest Chelsea injury news and potential return dates...

Cole Palmer

Palmer missed the Pafos win due to a thigh issue.

He completed the full 90 minutes in last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Brentford but sustained what has been described as a “minor” injury in that game.

Palmer was left out against Pafos and Rosenior revealed that he “felt a little bit of tightness in his thigh” but said he “should be absolutely fine” to face Crystal Palace.

Speaking before the Pafos match, Rosenior said: “I’ve got to manage the squad as best as possible and make sure we are fit throughout the season with the sheer amount of games we’ve got in a short space of time.”

Asked after the match for further details on Palmer’ absence, Rosenior said: “Precautionary. He felt something really, really minor in the game against Brentford.

“It was actually quite early in the game, so credit to him to keep going through it. But I don’t want to risk any players at this stage, especially players of Cole’s quality.

“He has got a really good chance to be involved and start the game on Sunday. We will keep preparing him for that.”

Potential return date: Sunday, January 25 vs Crystal Palace (A)

Reece James

Reece James was substituted at half-time against Pafos.

But Rosenior has allayed any fears that the Chelsea captain suffered an injury.

James has now been injury-free for over a year but Chelsea are carefully managing his workload.

This season has seen a deliberate strategy of carefully managing his minutes, which has led by the medical and performance team.

James is expected to be fine to face Crystal Palace on Sunday, when Chelsea will seek back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since November.

Speaking after the Pafos game, Rosenior said: “Yeah, [managing] minutes,” he said.

“And making sure that he's prepared for we're playing Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday.

“I want to make sure Reece is available as much as possible because he's an outstanding player and he's a leader in our group.”

Tosin Adarabioyo

Tosin Adarabioyo has been sidelined with a hamstring injury he suffered against Brentford.

Rosenior initially said the defender was substituted in that game as a precaution but scans revealed the issue was worse than first feared.

Adarabioyo is expected to be out “for the next few weeks” but Rosenior has not put a timeframe on his return.

“Unfortunately for Tosin, there's something in his hamstring which is going to rule him out for the next few weeks,” said Liam Rosenior before the Pafos game.

“But I can't be more precise with that at the moment.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Filip Jorgensen

Filip Jorgensen was substituted at half-time against Pafos after suffering an injury.

The goalkeeper had started ahead of Robert Sanchez but is now facing a spell on the sidelines.

“Yeah, unfortunately he picked something up,” said Rosenior.

“Devastating for him because he's really impressed me in his time. Not just the game at Charlton, but how he's trained.

“Rob Sanchez came on, made a fantastic punch with one of the few balls they put into our box. And hopefully Filip can get better really, really quick.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Romeo Lavia

Romeo Lavia has been out since suffering a thigh injury in November.

The midfielder is back in light training but is not yet back in first-team training and Rosenior has not put a timescale on his return.

Speaking recently, Rosenior said: “Romeo is on the pitch, he’s not with the group yet, but we can see him out on the grass doing his rehab.

“He is looking really, really good. The most important thing for him now is to make sure we don't push him too hard, so that when he does come back, he's back for good.”

Levi Colwill

Levi Colwill is continuing his recovery from the serious knee injury he suffering in pre-season.
