As Chelsea enter the final weeks of a season that has veered between frustration and promise, the injury landscape is shifting in ways that could yet define their fate. With European qualification still within reach on two fronts, the timing of key returns could prove pivotal. The latest Chelsea injury update offers hope, clarity, and the usual caution that defines elite-level management of players’ fitness.
Enzo Maresca’s side are rediscovering rhythm just when it matters most. Victory over Liverpool last weekend marked their third consecutive Premier League win—an assertive 3-1 triumph over the champions, following hard-earned points against Fulham and Everton. The result has bolstered Chelsea’s ambitions of breaking into the top five, a position that could secure Champions League football next season.

Parallel to domestic progress, their European journey continues apace. A commanding 4-1 first-leg win in Stockholm against Djurgarden has put Chelsea in pole position to reach the Conference League final in Wroclaw on 28 May. With the semi-final second leg to come at Stamford Bridge, the opportunity to end the season with silverware is firmly in their grasp.
Yet, as ever, much depends on who is available to shoulder the burden in the weeks ahead.
Christopher Nkunku’s debut season in England has been marred by misfortune. The French forward, a summer signing full of promise, has struggled to build momentum due to recurring injuries. He missed the trip to Sweden, and though goalkeeper Robert Sanchez returned from his knock to face Liverpool, Nkunku remained sidelined.

Initially labelled a “small problem,” his manager later admitted the issue may keep him out longer than first hoped.
“Christo will be out for, I’m not sure, I think one week, two weeks,” said Maresca. “We are going to see. He will be out for the next 10 days, 15 days.”
That timeframe points towards a potential return either against Manchester United at home on 16 May or away at Nottingham Forest on the final day.
Marc Guiu’s early contributions in Europe had been significant—six goals in six Conference League outings underlined his promise. But the teenager, signed from Barcelona last summer, has not featured since 3 February, when he made a brief cameo in a win over West Ham.

A persistent hamstring issue has halted his progress. While Maresca had hinted in late April that the Spaniard was “getting closer”, he remained unavailable for the Liverpool clash. If all goes well, the Newcastle fixture on 11 May could mark his return.
Chelsea acted decisively in January to recall Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Boca Juniors, though the 19-year-old has yet to make his senior bow in blue. A minor muscle concern—on top of earlier hamstring problems—has seen his introduction to the squad delayed further.

Maresca has confirmed Anselmino remains unavailable, with BBC Sport reporting that the club are handling his recovery with care. While he is unlikely to appear in the closing stages of the season, there is optimism that he could feature during this summer’s expanded Club World Cup in the United States.
Wesley Fofana’s wretched luck continues. The defender underwent hamstring surgery in April after a fleeting return to action and is confirmed to miss the remainder of the season. Similarly, Omari Kellyman—another summer signing—has endured an injury-hit campaign. Surgery in March brought his debut season at Stamford Bridge to an early conclusion, following persistent hamstring problems.

Both players are now looking ahead to pre-season, with the hope that a full summer’s training might finally bring continuity.
