A Chelsea insider believes that Chelsea have missed a chance to build on their Club World Cup success over the summer.
It’s a strong opinion and is probably too early to call it in all honesty, but it’s also hard to disagree in the moment and on the whole, I think Rahman Osman has raised some very good points in his latest article on Four Four Two.
But before we get to that section, Osman has also been reporting from his sources that those close to Enzo Maresca say he genuinely believes this squad simply isn’t good enough to compete in both the Premier League and Champions League. His sources say Maresca has been unhappy that his request for a ready-made replacement for Levi Colwill was brushed aside.
I’m sure former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel will be agreeing with every word of all of this as well, seeing as he has just come out and slammed the Chelsea owners once again and believes they will regret mistakes made this summer, come the end of this season.

Osman writes:
‘Whether you believe the manager should be backed, or that he should simply get the best out of an expensively-assembled squad and stop moaning, Chelsea have missed a chance to build on their Club World Cup success.
‘The opportunity to properly back a manager who genuinely looked like he was building something special may well have passed the Blues by.’
We are six games in and can easily turn it back around. If we win out next chunk of games then I think you can say we are then building on that success. But I totally get where Osman is coming from here and I don’t necessarily disagree with his points made at all.
