After the high-profile signing of Anthony Gordon, Barcelona will be keen on shoring up their ranks in defence as well.

The club have been linked with quite a few options, particularly in the fullback area, with both Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde’s long-term futures at Camp Nou far from certain.

While Marc Cucurella has emerged as one of the top options, Barcelona have also been keeping an eye on Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has offered a fresh update on the future of Cambiaso, confirming that Barcelona are indeed tracking the Italian fullback.

However, Longari adds that Chelsea are also interested in the services of the Italian international, who has been an ever-present figure in the Juventus backline.

Longari reports that Juventus have received ‘expression’ of interest from Chelsea while they have also held talks with Inter Milan as well.

The Inter Milan talks would make sense given that the Nerazzurri are likely to sell their left-back Denzel Dumfries to Barcelona’s arch-rival Real Madrid this summer.

A viable target for Barcelona?

Longari believes Cambiaso’s future is not locked down by Juventus, even though his contract doesn’t expire until 2029.

At 26, the Italian does bring a lot of experience to the table, with 161 appearances in Serie A during his time at Juventus, Bologna and Genoa.

However, one may argue that Barcelona would be better advised to go after someone like Marc Cucurella, who is better suited to the club’s style of play.

If Barcelona end up selling Balde this summer, affording Cucurella won’t be much of a problem either, with the player himself likely to prioritise a return to Camp Nou.
