Transfer news which sounds totally unbelievable is always the most interesting, and often there’s something to it: if you were going to invent something, you’d invent something plausible.

So our colleague Simon Phillips’ report that Chelsea are keen on Riccardo Calafiori definitely piqued our interest. Sadly, a follow up from CaughtOffside has rather dismissed it.

Two reasons deal for Arsenal defender looks impossible

They say that, while there is interest from Chelsea, it’s not a “realistic” deal for two reasons. Firstly that Arsenal don’t want to sell to a rival, and secondly because Calafiori would only be interested in a return to Serie A if he leaves the Gunners.

His price tag, with three years left on his contract, probably makes him an impossible move for most teams, given his success in North London, where he’s established himself as a top defender. But in a couple of years, if Chelsea make big improvements and Arsenal fall away, keep an eye on this one. There’s definitely long-standing interest there.

In other news…

Fabrizio Romano, of all people, has been speaking out about Marc Cucurella’s comments on the Chelsea project as a whole.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen has continued to make waves in our youth teams, and there’s increasing chatter he may make a debut this weekend in the FA Cup against Port Vale.
