Chelsea joins Arsenal in the race for top teenager

Louis Page was one of the players Arsenal wanted to sign during the summer as they looked to raid Leicester City for some of their best young players and ensure their youth teams remain in fine shape.

The Gunners have done well when it comes to adding talented youngsters to their squad, particularly when they believe a player has the ability to develop at the club. They spent considerable time watching Page and his then teammate Jeremy Monga.

Arsenal unable to secure Page deal

Arsenal were closer to completing a move for Monga, and the attacker agreed to join them. However, they could not reach an agreement with Leicester City over his signature, allowing Manchester City to step in and secure his services instead.

The Citizens paid more for Monga, leaving Arsenal to focus their attention on Page. Despite their interest, the Gunners were also unable to complete a deal for the youngster before the summer transfer window closed.

Page would reportedly love the opportunity to join Arsenal, but he has continued to develop on the books of the Foxes. His progress has ensured that interest in his services has not disappeared following Arsenal’s failure to sign him during the summer.

Chelsea enter race for Page

The situation has now become more complicated for Arsenal, with another major club showing an interest in the Leicester youngster. A report on Caught Offside claims that Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race for his signature.

The Blues believe Page could develop well within their team, and their interest means Arsenal can no longer assume they are the only club capable of securing his services. Chelsea will be determined to make their interest count if they believe the youngster can become an important player for them in the future.

Arsenal will therefore need to remain attentive to Page’s situation as they consider whether to revive their interest in the Leicester player. The Gunners have already shown that they value his ability, but Chelsea’s involvement could make a future deal considerably more difficult.

For Page, the continued interest from two major clubs represents an opportunity to take the next step in his development. Arsenal wanted him in the summer, while Chelsea are now prepared to challenge them, leaving his future with Leicester increasingly interesting.
