The Blues were leading 1-0 against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday through Joao Pedro’s early goal when they were reduced to ten men.

Wesley Fofana was given his marching orders in the 72nd minute for two bookable offences, leaving Chelsea with their backs against the wall for the remainder of the second half.

Chelsea then made it a Premier League-high 17 points dropped from winning positions at home this season as Zian Flemming levelled from a corner in the 93rd minute to earn the side 19th in the table a point.

“Unfortunately yesterday in the training session, he felt awareness in his hamstring,” Rosenior said ahead of kick-off when explaining the Brazilian’s absence from the matchday squad.

“At the moment we are scanning it to make sure it’s nothing too serious but he’s unavailable for today’s game and we will see from there.”

In the 88th minute, Rosenior brought James off and appeared in some panic to get Josh Acheampong ready and on the pitch in his place.

Speaking after the game, he said: “Reece, it was just, honestly, he's so important to us as the captain, as the world-class player that he is.

“Any sign of fatigue with him, I want to get him off the pitch. I need him for [the] Arsenal [game]. He should be absolutely fine.

“And with Estevao, we're doing our assessments and scans on him now.”
