Frank Lampard has reportedly made signing Gabriel Barbosa his priority as Chelsea look to boost their striking options.
Barbosa, who has just finished a loan spell at Flamengo from Inter Milan, came to worldwide attention with his double that gave the Brazilian side a 2-1 win over River Plate in the Copa Libertadores final.
According to the Sunday Express, Lampard is keen to lift the goalscoring burden on Tammy Abraham.
And Barbosa, who scored 43 goals in 2019 for the Rubro-Negro, would certainly seem to fit the bill.
The 23-year-old Brazil international has revived his flagging career following disappointing stints at Inter and Benfica.
Despite Barbosa’s incredible calendar year with Flamengo, Inter boss Antonio Conte has no interest in bringing him back into the Nerazzurri fold.
And Chelsea may hold the trump card in the race for his signature as they are willing to offer veteran striker Olivier Giroud on a free as part of the deal.
Conte has signed the French striker before. Conte was in charge at Stamford Bridge when Giroud moved to the Blues from London rivals Arsenal in January 2018.
