Chelsea have hired former Bournemouth Medical Director Craig Roberts as the club’s new Head of Performance Medicine amid another reshuffle in the medical department according to reports.

The Blues have been plagued by injury issues over the last three seasons with a number of key players sidelined for significant periods.

Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia missed the entirety of last season, whilst Reece James and Christopher Nkunku featured sparingly, and a continuation of these injury issues into the new campaign simply isn’t sustainable.

The constant injury issues have become a huge source of frustration for the fans, and it’s ultimately costing the team on the pitch as Chelsea arguably haven’t been able to field their strongest team due to the constant injuries.

Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods were questioned last season because of the number of injuries, but this is an issue that pre-dated the Argentine’s arrival.

Chelsea have appointed Roberts as their new Head of Performance Medicine.

The club are no doubt desperate to get to the bottom of the issue, and Training Ground Guru have reported that Chelsea have appointed Roberts as their new Head of Performance Medicine amid another reshuffle in the medical department.

The report adds that Roberts stepped down from his role at Bournemouth last December after eight years with the Cherries and will replace Dimitrios Kalogiannidis, who left the Blues at the start of year after 14 years at the club.

Training Ground Guru add that Roberts will head up a revamped department of physios, sports therapists and doctors, with Stephen Lewis, who has worked for both Brighton and Fulham named the new first team doctor, whilst Meirion Jones has joined as the lead Performance Therapist.

Hopefully the new appointments will spell the end of Chelsea’s serious injury problems and the Blues can have a fully fit squad to choose from for the majority of the season which will make a huge difference for new boss Enzo Maresca.
