Chelsea midfielder Čanković joins Brighton & Hove Albion | OneFootball

Chelsea midfielder Jelena Čanković has joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Seagulls this afternoon.

The 29-year-old Serbian international midfielder joined former club Chelsea from Swedish side FC Rosengård back in summer 2022. Čanković went on to make 38 appearances for the South West Londoners in all competitions while she scored four goals. The player won back-to-back Barclays Women’s Super League titles with Chelsea along with the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in 2022/2023.

On the international stage, Čanković has more than 50 senior caps to her name for Serbia.

Čanković showed her qualities during her time with Chelsea and she will be hoping to play a greater role for new club Brighton & Hove Albion this season.

After adding Čanković to his squad, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Dario Vidošić said “We’re delighted to bring a player of Jelena’s pedigree and experience to the club.

“She has already achieved so much in her career but is ready for a new chapter and is excited by this challenge. Her experience and knowledge will be important in helping our squad grow and I am looking forward to working with her.”

Čanković is Brighton & Hove Albion’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window. She joins former Chelsea teammate Fran Kirby at the club.
