Chelsea have this afternoon confirmed the news that South Korean international midfielder Ji So-yun will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Blues informed FAWSL Full-Time of the news via an official club press release a short time ago.

Ji is the second player to be leaving Chelsea this summer with defender Jonna Andersson also set to move on. The midfielder joined The Blues back in 2014 and she has gone on to help the club to win no less than 11 domestic trophies. Ji was also a UEFA Women’s Champions League finalist with Chelsea last season. The player has made 208 appearances in all competitions for The Blues and has scored 68 goals.

After Ji’s departure was confirmed, Chelsea manager Emma Hayes told The Blues’ official media team “What an honour and a privilege it’s been to coach one of the most amazing players the WSL has ever seen. There’s no question she’s been the most successful player from outside our league.

“Ji’s helped the club grow on and off the pitch and she’s a fabulous character who will be sorely missed. I will miss her terribly and I’m so grateful for everything she’s done for everyone at the football club. We are in a much better place because of it.”

Ji will hope to again feature for Chelsea at Birmingham City on Sunday before enjoying an emotional farewell against Manchester United at Kingsmeadow on the final day of the season. There is also the prospect of a Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley next month.
