WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this evening.
Leupolz has spent the last four years with Chelsea after joining the club from Bayern Munich in summer 2020. The 30-year-old German international midfielder has impressed Blues fans with her dynamic playing style, tough tackling and keen eye for the opposition goal.
In her time in South West London, Leupolz won four consecutive Barclays Women’s Super League titles, three Adobe Women’s FA Cups, one FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup and the FA Women’s Community Shield. She was also a member of the Chelsea squad which reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in 2020/2021.
Chelsea will always play a part in Leupolz’s family life. The club supported the midfielder through her pregnancy in 2022 with former boss Emma Hayes playing a mothering role, as she did with all of her players.
With Chelsea set to start a new era this season under the guidance of new head coach Sonia Bompastor, Leupolz has determined it to be the right time to take up a new challenge. She joins a Real Madrid side that are in search of long-term success.
Leupolz is the fifth player to leave Chelsea this summer.
