Striker is unlikely to remain at Bayern permanently

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has no plans to cut short his season-long loan at Bayern Munich in order to seal a permanent move elsewhere in January.

The Senegal forward was the subject of a dramatic back-and-forth transfer saga this summer but is understood to be settled at Bayern, where he is on an initial loan with a conditional obligation to buy.

Jackson had only just landed in Munich in late August ahead of a £13million loan move, with an option to buy, when he was informed Chelsea were intending to pull the plug after an injury to Liam Delap left Joao Pedro as the club’s only fit striker.

But Jackson insisted on resurrecting the deal in whatever form was workable, with his agent Ali Barat publicly denouncing the “deeply frustrating” situation and promising to “fight with everything I have”.

Marc Guiu was eventually recalled from his Sunderland loan instead, which Jackson allowed to remain in Munich on a £14.3m season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy for £56.3m should he start 40 games.

The 24-year-old Senegal international has scored three goals in 12 appearances for Bayern to date, often playing as the centre-forward with England captain Harry Kane operating as a No10 just behind him.

It is understood that he has no wish to cut short his stay with Bayern and does not plan to pursue a permanent exit from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villareal in June 2023 and scored 30 goals in 81 games for the Blues.

Speaking at his unveiling in Bavaria in September, Jackson said: “It was tough; a tough time. Difficult moments in those last days.

“But I was very confident I will stay here because this is where I want to play and want to be. It was very tough but in the end we got it, so I'm very glad.”
