Ask Chelsea fans who their man of the match was in Friday’s big win over West Ham and you’ll get a few names mentioned – Estevao Willian won the Sky Sports award, while Joao Pedro was top of the vote among Chelsea fans.
Moises Caicedo won’t get nearly as much of a mention – but that’s his style. Quietly dominate the game, let others take the credit. To counteract how under-praised Caicedo is, the Chelsea website has done a really nice job of pulling some quotes together about how good is he, from a variety of colleagues, coaches, players and pundits.

“We’ve not seen the likes in the middle of the park winning the ball like that since [N’Golo] Kante. I’m not just talking about Chelsea, I’m talking about in the league,” said Jason Cundy of Chelsea TV.
Levi Colwill put it plainly: “you just rely on him. Even when I know I have made a mistake, I have always known he is there to cover me in midfield.”
Even legendary Blues hater Craig Burley of ESPN has some positive quotes to his name about Caicedo:
“The job Caicedo does off the ball is amazing. He’s like a leech. You can’t get away from him. He gets these tackles in where you think, ‘How has he done that?’.”
Chelsea fans don’t underrate or underappreciate Caicedo, nor do the rest of the footballing world, as you can see from the evidence above.
But what we need to see is the Ecuador star taking on the very best teams in the world to earn the respect he’s due – and he will get that this year in the Champions League.
