Blues left to rue defensive errors as Xabi Alonso’s side drop points at home to Hull

The visitors came from behind to lead by half-time, after Morgan Rogers’ seventh minute opener was cancelled out by Mohamed Belloumi’s brace, both goals the product of markedly unconvincing defending.

Joao Pedro, till then peripheral, was handed one second half chance and buried it to ensure the points were shared and deny Hull a place atop the Premier League.

Not much he could have done to deny either of Hull’s first-half goals, but unconvincing defending corners and dropped a catchable long-shot in the second half. Denied Hull a winner with a vital late stop.

Malo Gusto 3

His slack defending allowed the cross for Belloumi’s opener. Unable to cope with Stroud and Giles’ physicality and ineffective going forward.

Wesley Fofana 5

Caught in no man’s land for Belloumi’s second. Forward-thinking on the ball but not many of his attempted line-breaking passes reached the intended destination.

Levi Colwill 7

Cannot be faulted for either Hull goal. Impressive in the air and tackled well. Made a lung-busting recovery run in the dying stages to deny Hull a winner.

Jorrel Hato 3

Badly misread a cross to open the door for Hull’s first. Had some nice moments going forward but struggled to impress himself. Not a massive surprise to see him make way at half-time.

Pedro Neto 7

Lively on the right flank and caused Giles plenty of problems. Lacked end product.

Reece James 6

Put in a composed performance next to Lavia in midfield. Wasn’t at his best on the ball, but pinpoint set-piece deliveries were as good as ever.

Romeo Lavia 6

Put in a solid shift in midfield, but his influence faded as Chelsea lost their grip on the match.

Cole Palmer 5

Played a part in the move leading to Rogers' opener. Lost possession multiple times and did not see enough of the ball as Chelsea chased the game. Inspired Pedro’s equaliser and helped out in defence, but ballooned a free-kick over with the last kick of the match.

Morgan Rogers 7

His opener was his first meaningful involvement of the match, and he made no mistake with a rifled near-post finish. Was relatively quiet for the remainder of the game. Saw a late one-on-one saved.

Joao Pedro 7

Teed up Rogers' opener with a tidy pass, but playing as a lone striker, struggled to get the better of a physical Hull centre-back pairing. Was made to wait for his chance, but took it with aplomb.

Very quiet after coming on at half-time, but did at least upstage the man he replaced.

Chelsea lost rhythm and control following his introduction. Harshly booked for a foul on McBurnie.

Not overly involved in this cameo. Tasked with finding a winner but fell short.
