Mixed displays from Blues in UEFA Conference League tie

Chelsea got their first win of the Enzo Maresca era by beating Servette in their UEFA Conference League play-off.

After a tight first-half, which ended goalless and as some Chelsea fans booed their team off, the Blues went ahead thanks to a penalty by Christopher Nkunku.

They doubled their lead later on in the half thanks to Noni Madueke, who smashed the ball home after being played in by Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea now head to the second leg next week in Switzerland with a two-goal cushion.

Simon Collings was at Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea in action...

Filip Jorgensen 6

A clean sheet on his debut. Didn’t have masses to do, in all honesty, but was neat and tidy when called into action.

Axel Disasi 6

Linked with a move away before the transfer window closes this month, but put in a solid display here. Dropped into a back-three when Chelsea had the ball.

Tosin Adarabioyo 6

An assured performance on his debut. Dominant in the air and looked good in the middle of the defence when called upon.

Benoit Badiashile 6

Had a lot of the ball as Chelsea seemed to play out through him. Didn’t pull up any trees, but was fine overall.

Renato Veiga 6

Played left-back but tucked into midfield when Chelsea had the ball. A solid performance, with a few crunching tackles.

Moises Caicedo 6

Captain for the night and put in a solid performance. Broke up play when needed too and kept things simple on the ball.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 6

Brought bags of energy to the midfield and tried to make an impact in both boxes. Final ball was occasionally lacking.

One of the better players during a lacklustre first-half. Beat his opposite man a few times and could keep his place on Sunday, when Chelsea return to his old club Wolves.

Christopher Nkunku 7

Won a penalty before slotting it home. Still getting back to full fitness after a long time out look season, but was sharp in patches.

An infuriating player to watch. Capable of some brilliant moments of skill, but so often the final ball is lacking.

Looked good in the first-half and linked the play nicely, but missed an absolute sitter after the break when the goal was gaping.

Substitutions

Cole Palmer (Guiu 57’) 6

A few lovely touches, as you’d expected from him. Played as a No10 instead of out wide.

Noni Madueke (Neto 57’) 7

Off the bench and on the scoresheet. Took his goal well after a nice ball over the top.

Enzo Fernandez (Nkunku 57’) 7

Setup Chelsea’s goal with a great ball over the top. A bright cameo off the bench.

Romeo Lavia (Caicedo 85’) N/A

Subs not used: Sanchez, Bettinelli, Colwill, Gusto, Cucurella, Jackson
