The Daily Express have made some very confident predictions about Chelsea’s winter moves.

They say the Blues are “poised to delve into the January market for a new central defender” after suffering a spate of injuries at the back.

However they insist that move won’t be for Marc Guehi.

“The only thing I can say is Marc Guehi is a Palace player. I like Marc for sure, but he is not our player,” is what Enzo Maresca said about Guehi earlier this year.

“I also like the centre-halves we have and I like different central defenders in Italy, Spain and France but that doesn’t mean we are going to buy the player. It is a normal situation when you have these central defender injuries that there’s speculation there. There’s nothing there.”

The Express claim that despite Maresca’s desire, Guehi will be going to Liverpool or Real Madrid.

Chelsea set to hold fire on defender deal despite reports

We really struggle to believe that Chelsea are going to “delve” into the January market for a new defender. They’ve just had the worst injury crisis possible at the back and they managed to survive it. They will have a lot of players back for our next game, plus Levi Colwill towards the end of the season.

Don’t forget, Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr are already on the books, with plenty of talent.

Next summer we’re sure they will sell off one or two of their options and bring someone new it – but it won’t be Marc Guehi, and it won’t be in January. The only way that would change would be if, say, Trevoh Chalobah gets a big offer in the winter window.
