Chelsea are set to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in Tuesday night’s Premier League showdown at the Amex Stadium.
The Blues are in turmoil after losing four consecutive league games, placing Liam Rosenior’s job under serious threat despite the board’s backing.
Chelsea are heading to the south coast on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat against Manchester United that may have ended their hopes of securing Champions League football.
Their recent capitulation has allowed the chasing pack to close the gap on the Blues, with Brentford, Bournemouth, Everton and Brighton all breathing down their neck.
Chelsea would prefer to see out the campaign with Rosenior in charge, but another slip-up could force the board to act, with the fans already calling for his dismissal.
As if losing five of their last six games in all competitions wasn’t enough (W1), Chelsea have also drawn blank in each of those defeats.
They only flexed their muscles against Port Vale, annihilating them 7-0 in the FA Cup.
Rosenior could make several changes from the side that lost to United over the weekend.
Robert Sanchez should reprise his role between the sticks while Trevoh Chalobah returns to partner Wesley Fofana in the heart of the defence in place of the impressive Jorrel Hato.
With Reece James still sidelined, Malo Gusto should continue at right back, with Marc Cucurella lining up on the other flank.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez should continue their partnership in midfield, assuming the latter doesn’t suffer any setbacks after being forced off with cramps against United.
Estevao went off in tears after picking up a hamstring injury that could rule him out for a while.
That paves the way for Alejandro Garnacho to make his first Premier League start in six and a half weeks. He hasn’t been named in the team since Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa in early March.
Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto will likely join Garnacho, while Joao Pedro returns to lead the line in place of the misfiring Liam Delap.
