Chelsea are preparing a player-plus-cash bid to lure Kobbie Mainoo to the club from Manchester United.

Manchester United are understood to be reluctantly considering offers for the midfielder and Alejandro Garnacho, in a bid to ease financial concerns.

The duo’s status as high-value academy products mean significant proposals will be considered at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have emerged as the early frontrunners to sign Mainoo. The 19-year-old broke into the side last season and established himself in the England set-up, featuring prominently as the Three Lions reached the final of Euro 2024 in the summer.

Such was his impact, Mainoo finished third in the vote for the 2024 Kopa Trophy vote. The accolade, awarded to the best performing player worldwide under the age of 21, was won by Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal.

Chelsea are now pushing to sign Mainoo, whose talks over a new contract at Manchester United have stalled. The Football Faithful have been informed that the Blues are prepared to meet Mainoo’s demands for a contract worth £200,000-a-week.

In a bid to lower Manchester United’s asking price, Chelsea are looking to offer players as part of the package. Christopher Nkunku has been touted as an option in exchange with the Frenchman frustrated at his lack of football this season.

Nkunku has scored 12 times in 12 starts but his football has largely been restricted to cup competitions. He has started just three times in the Premier League.

The France international could be an attractive option for Manchester United, as the Red Devils seek experienced support for Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
