Chelsea are preparing to offer Marc Cucurella a new contract following his standout performances at the Club World Cup.

The Spanish full-back was a key figure in Chelsea’s triumph, delivering assured displays that have earned the trust of manager Enzo Maresca and the club hierarchy.

There have been no negotiations with Al-Nassr, and Chelsea are not entertaining offers. Cucurella is viewed as a vital part of the first-team squad going into the new campaign.

The 26-year-old joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 in a deal worth up to £62 million.

He endured a difficult first season but responded with improved form in the latter stages of the following season and has not looked back since.

With two years left on his current contract, Chelsea are keen to tie him down to a longer deal.

Talks are expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the club looking to reflect his growing importance through improved terms.

Cucurella has impressed with his tactical discipline and versatility, offering an option as both a traditional left-back and an inverted full-back in Maresca’s system.

His consistency has made him a dependable figure in an otherwise transitioning back line.

The Blues remain in the market for defensive reinforcements, with Ajax teenager Jorrel Hato among their long-term targets.

However, any additions are not expected to threaten Cucurella’s place in the squad, as Hato is considered more of a central defensive option.

Chelsea also view Cucurella as one of the more experienced voices in a young dressing room.

His leadership and adaptability are highly valued, particularly in a season where Maresca’s philosophy is expected to demand positional intelligence and composure in possession.
