Chelsea have reportedly entered the race for Brentford’s Ukrainian midfielder Yehor Yarmolyuk, according to TeamTalk. The 21-year-old has quietly developed into one of the Premier League’s most tenacious and progressive young midfielders, and it appears Europe’s elite are finally taking notice.
Yarmolyuk joined Brentford in 2022 and has already amassed 75 appearances, an impressive figure for a player still so young. His statistical output remains modest with just one assist so far, but scouts are clearly focusing on his energy, positioning and game intelligence rather than raw numbers.
“He is turning heads with his consistent performances,” TeamTalk reported, adding that Chelsea have now started to make official checks on the player’s situation. Manchester United and Tottenham are already well into their scouting process, with Spurs holding the advantage through Thomas Frank’s prior relationship with the midfielder.
Tottenham reportedly view him as an ideal squad addition, while United are “curious over whether he could add new depth and quality to their squad.” Chelsea’s entry into the race should force the issue earlier than planned, with 2026 likely pencilled in as the summer of movement.
Brentford’s stance is clear. TeamTalk state that the club “do not want to sell Yarmolyuk in the January transfer window,” with indications that a summer move is the most realistic scenario. Sources claim he could be available for £30million, and given the current transfer market that represents genuine value.

That price tag aligns with Chelsea’s long-term transfer model, focused on high-ceiling players under 23. As TeamTalk remind us, “Yarmolyuk’s profile fits the kind of players that chairman Todd Boehly likes to sign.”
Brentford may resist for now, but the pressure will only intensify once the season heads into spring. Yarmolyuk has played nine matches in all competitions already this season, and continued exposure will only inflate the hype.
A tireless presser who carries the ball with confidence, Yarmolyuk appears ideal for managers who demand energy in midfield. His versatility between a six and eight role makes him attractive to clubs searching for balance.
Sources believe that if he maintains this level, “it is starting to look like a big move could be on the cards in 2026.” With United reshaping under Ruben Amorim, Tottenham strengthening Frank’s rebuild and Chelsea refining Enzo Maresca’s system, the scramble could escalate quickly.
If Brentford eventually sanction a sale at £30m, it may be one of the market’s smartest deals.
Chelsea fans will be split. On one hand, Yarmolyuk is not a headline grabber. His numbers do not leap off the page. One assist in 75 appearances hardly screams future Premier League icon. Yet Brentford rarely develop passengers. If Thomas Frank trusted him, and if Manchester United and Tottenham are sniffing around, then clearly there is substance beneath the surface.
Is he better than Lesley Ugochukwu or Romeo Lavia right now? Probably in terms of availability and sharpness. Would he start over Moisés Caicedo or Enzo Fernández? Not immediately. But Chelsea have learned the hard way that squad depth is not about flashy names, it is about consistent output.
Enzo Maresca wants control. He wants midfielders who can receive under pressure and recycle or burst when the opportunity arises. Yarmolyuk ticks those tactical boxes.
United fans may argue that Ruben Amorim needs more direct acceleration in midfield, while Spurs supporters will feel they deserve first refusal given the Frank connection. Brentford fans will simply shrug at the idea of losing yet another gem and trust their scouting department to replace him.
If the fee really is £30m, this transfer rumour will not go away. Chelsea have been burned by high-cost gambles, so maybe, just maybe, the quiet ones are worth backing.
