Chelsea have turned down a loan bid from Roma for English winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Roma’s proposal was a €3 million loan with a €40 million buy option at the end of the season.
Bynoe-Gittens joined Chelsea after a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund, where he made 107 appearances and scored 17 goals in all competitions.
In his debut season in West London, Bynoe-Gittens made 29 appearances for Chelsea, registering two goals and six assists.
Given his age and potential, Chelsea are not considering a sale or loan for the 2004-born winger, who is also keen to remain at Stamford Bridge.
Roma are looking to strengthen their squad on multiple fronts before the transfer deadline. In addition to talks with Chelsea, the Giallorossi are also advancing in their quest to secure a loan deal for Fenerbahce full-back Jayden Oosterwolde, which would include a conditional obligation to buy.
With Chelsea currently unwilling to sanction a loan, Roma must now decide whether to return with a revised offer for Bynoe-Gittens.
To tempt Chelsea into altering their stance, the Serie A club may need to propose a deal that guarantees a permanent transfer.
Bynoe-Gittens featured prominently in Chelsea’s pre-season and will hope to make a greater impact under Xabi Alonso this term.
The Englishman is one of several Chelsea players attracting Serie A interest, with Napoli monitoring Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu.
Chelsea have concluded the bulk of their incoming transfer business and are now expected to focus on departures to trim their squad before the window closes.
The Blues get their Premier League campaign underway with a local derby against Fulham on Monday night.
