After beating Port Vale in the FA Cup on Saturday, Chelsea have a free week before their Premier League run in gets cracking. There are seven league games left, almost all of them really challenging. So how are the Blues shaping up?
In midfield, things are looking up after a challenging season. Of course there’s the tension with Enzo Fernandez, and Moises Caicedo’s form has fallen off as the team have struggled recently. But both are fit and at least, and they finally have backup on hand.
Andrey Santos, Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia are all fit and able to fill in now, giving Liam Rosenior options in games and between games. It will be very interesting to see who emerges as Caicedo’s preferred partner in the coming weeks, especially given the strength of opposition we face.
Man City and Man U provide tough opposition, and even an out of form Liverpool and Tottenham will provide a threat. Of our final seven games, all are likely to come out and attack us to some degree, with Sunderland on the final day the only potential bus-parkers.
Things aren’t looking good in defence, where injuries have depleted an area of the team which was already dodgy.
In goal, things are a lot clearer thanks to a well-timed injury to Filip Jorgensen.
