Chelsea send out vote of confidence media briefings in attempt to calm the panic

Chelsea have clearly sent out the vote of confidence media briefings this weekend in an attempt to calm things down out there.

The Blues lost 3-1 to Brighton at home on Saturday afternoon after defender Trevoh Chalobah got a red card early in the second half. Manager Enzo Maresca made some very odd substitutions that were very negative and saw criticism from Chelsea fans.

The negativity continued amongst the media and Chelsea fan base after the game with the Blues clearly in a little slump already in the season after their last four games. Although they beat Lincoln City last week, the performance was very bad.

This led to question marks around Maresca and whether his job is safe and of course, massive question marks over the squad build and the Chelsea board/ownership.

However, that same board has sent out the media briefings last night with basically every big publication reporting exactly the same thing, that Maresca is safe, starting with a report from The Telegraph that was followed up by many other publications and reporters.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol got the briefing as well, posting this on his X account last night:

“Chelsea have full confidence in Enzo Maresca and their head coach is not under any extra pressure despite a relatively disappointing start to the season. Chelsea have lost only five times in six months and they had a man sent off in four of those defeats. The only game they have lost since April when it has been 11 v 11 for the whole match was away at Bayern Munich earlier this month. There is an expectation results will improve when Chelsea cut out the red cards and when key players start returning from injury. The red cards in the past two games were a result of attempts to stop goal-scoring opportunities rather than Nicolas Jackson’s indiscipline against Newcastle United in May and Flamengo in June. Liam Delap is expected to return in eight weeks and Cole Palmer does not need groin surgery and will be back after next month’s international break. Chelsea have won only one of their past five games but no-one is hitting the panic button at Stamford Bridge. The target for Maresca’s side remains qualifying for the Champions League again and challenging for trophies in all the competitions they are playing in this season. Maresca – and his players – will be fully evaluated at the end of the season, not in September after six league games. Chelsea are still eight in the table after losing twice and are one win away from the top four. They qualified for the Champions League and won two trophies last season. Chelsea believe they have a stronger squad this season and Maresca and his players are still well-placed to build on last season’s successes. Maresca has been told the club are fully behind him and there is still all to play for this season. This is not the first time Chelsea have experienced a slump under Maresca. Last season they won only two league games between mid-December and the final week of February. Chelsea kept faith with Maresca then and they will do the same again now.”
