Managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Como have launched an official proposal worth an initial €25m, plus €2m in performance-related bonuses, to prise the 26-year-old ‘soldier’ away from Stamford Bridge.
While the bid marks a serious statement of intent, Chelsea have swiftly made it clear that the offer falls short of their valuation.
Nonetheless, negotiations are expected to continue as the Blues look to restructure their defensive department under Xabi Alonso.
For the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, parting ways with Chalobah would represent a significant financial gain.
As a graduate of the club’s Cobham youth academy, any transfer fee from his sale would be recorded as “pure profit” in the club’s accounts.
This financial boost is vital for Chelsea as they aim to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) while supporting their new manager in the transfer market.
However, Como are not the only Italian club trying to tempt the defender away from England. Reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan are also monitoring Chalobah’s situation as they seek elite cover for their backline.
Inter represent a major threat to Como’s hopes, as the Nerazzurri can offer not only UEFA Champions League football but also the allure of a league title challenge.
Chalobah, who is currently fully focused on international commitments at the World Cup, remains open to a new chapter after a turbulent couple of seasons in West London.
While the player has two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, the Blues are prepared to sanction a departure if their €35m valuation is met.
