Chelsea are planning to hold fresh talks with Tyrique George ahead of the January transfer window to decide his long-term future at Stamford Bridge, per the Daily Mail.
The Chelsea star broke into the senior set-up under Enzo Maresca last season, proving a valuable asset in the run to the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup titles.
In 26 apps last term, he delivered three goals and five assists. George has featured eight times for the Blues this season, bagging three goals and an assist.
However, the Chelsea academy graduate still faces uncertainty over his role in a squad packed with attacking options.
George came close to leaving Chelsea in the summer after Fulham agreed a £22 million deal for his signature.
The move collapsed in the final hours of deadline day, despite a deal sheet being submitted to the Premier League for an extension.
The shock collapse left both clubs scrambling, with Fulham later opting to pursue other wide options.
Since then, Chelsea co-director of recruitment Joe Shields has reportedly assured the youngster that he remains a valued member of Maresca’s plans.
George has repaid that faith with strong performances when given the chance, as well as netting for England’s Under-21s earlier this month.
However, opportunities in the Premier League remain limited.
George has made just four substitute appearances so far, with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Marc Guiu ahead of him in the striking pecking order.
Even in his favoured role on the wing, Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Estevao have filled the ranks.
Both the Blues and the player are expected to have an open discussion about what’s best for his development.
That might mean staying and fighting for minutes, going out on loan, or reconsidering permanent offers from elsewhere in Europe.
Honestly, the West Londoners should be doing everything within their powers to hold on to George, considering his impact when he plays.
Delivering six goals and six assists in 34 outings is a respectable return. His ability to fill in at several positions is also important, and Maresca clearly rates him.
The 19-year-old is a top ball striker with an eye for goal and should be staying to help Chelsea.
