Chelsea will now be exploring some options at centre back in case they need to replace Levi Colwill this transfer window.

Enzo Maresca has just confirmed this morning that Levi Colwill is out injured and although it was a very vague update, it sounds very concerning and there are some genuine concerns that it could be a bad one and Colwill might be missing for a while.

Of course, this is all speculation and we do need to wait it out until the official word comes from Chelsea as to how long he will be missing, but the initial reactions do not look good at all.

Colwill is a key regular first team starter for Chelsea and is actually one of the leaders of the group on and off the pitch, so any time he is going to be missing for is going to be very bad for Enzo Maresca and Chelsea.

Surely they will bring a new one in?

I’d actually heard that Chelsea wanted to sign a new centre back still this window anyway, so I’d be absolutely shocked if they now don’t sign one after this news.

Again, we need to see how long he will be out for, but with the Colwill news not looking good, I think surely Chelsea will sign a new centre back this window.

Fears are growing

The Daily Mail reporter Kieran Gill posted this on X earlier:

‘Levi Colwill was sent for a scan last night with #CFC now awaiting news. Injury occurred towards the end of their first pre-season session on Monday. Wasn’t the result of a challenge. Chelsea could look at bringing in a centre back this month if their fears are confirmed.’

That tells me it’s most likely it’s a bad injury and Chelsea will look to replace him.

Names like Marc Guehi and even Jarrad Branthwaite could be options to replace Colwill, if needed.
