Vivianne Miedema was on the scoresheet and now has an impressive five goals and three assists in 12 league games.

Chelsea, who have struggled to find their best form this season, beat West Ham 5-0 to keep within touching distance against City.

City are not involved in a European competition this season and have benefitted from the extra time to prepare in between league games, which Chelsea and Arsenal have not had the luxury of.

Sandy Baltimore netted twice in the Blues’ win, with Chelsea in control straight from the off, after Yu Endo scored an unfortunate own-goal for West Ham in the first minute.

There was no way back for the Hammers after that and they are now 11th in the league, only one point above bottom-placed Liverpool.

Liverpool drew 0-0 with the London City Lionesses to pick up only their fourth point of the season, but they are still without a win after 12 games and the threat of relegation is becoming increasingly daunting.

Arsenal and Manchester United played out a lacklustre 0-0 draw in the first game of the weekend, the scoreline a clear result of two teams coming back from a long break.

Arsenal controlled proceedings but could not make their domination count, even after United had a player sent off.

Jayde Riviere was given her marching orders after a cynical foul on Caitlin Foord resulted in her being shown a second yellow card.

The Gunners have lost even more ground in the title race and are now 10 points behind Manchester City.

It seems as though a title challenge will be a step too far this season for Renee Slegers’ team, but they are fifth in the Champions League table and will be eyeing the possibility of retaining the UWCL.
