Chelsea captain Reece James has reached out to Mason Mount via social media after the Manchester United midfielder was struck down by yet another injury.

James knows the struggle of chronic fitness concerns as well as his former Chelsea teammate. The England international has played more games alongside his compatriot (157) than any other player in a career riddled by injuries.

The buccaneering right-back has only just been eased back into training after nursing a hamstring complaint. While James is nearing his return, United boss Ruben Amorim confirmed that Mount would be out for "several weeks" after he pulled up 14 minutes into last weekend's Manchester derby.

After the extent of Mount's layoff was revealed, James provided public support for his close friend. "Not many people understand what your [sic] going through but I have lived disappointment after disappointment after disappointment," the defender wrote on Instagram. "It's real tough and lonely man! Speedy recovery and stay strong brother! I have zero doubts you'll be back to your best."

Mount has been beset by lengthy injury layoffs ever since leaving Stamford Bridge for Manchester United in the summer of 2023. The recent arrival of Amorim, which coincided with his return to fitness, offered the England midfielder a chance to reinvigorate his career. The Portuguese coach has been full of praise for Mount, hailing him as "perfect" for his 3-4-2-1 system.

However, misfortune has struck again. Mount delivered a post of his own on Instagram this week, writing: "Words can't portray how devastated I'm feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.

"United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith.

"I've said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won't stop until that's achieved."
