Chelsea star to be assessed after going off injured in Champions League win | OneFootball

Sonia Bompastor says Chelsea will assess Keira Walsh after the midfielder was forced off in the first half of their 1-0 Champions League win over Austria Vienna.

Walsh felt discomfort in her quad and was withdrawn as a precaution, with Chelsea now waiting to see whether she will be available for Sunday’s game against Arsenal.

“Yeah, so we were trying to be cautious with her,” Bompastor said.

“She just felt a little bit of quad, so hopefully it’s not too bad.

“We’ll assess her tomorrow and see if she’s available for Sunday’s game.”

Melvine Malard was also replaced at half-time, but Bompastor confirmed that change had been planned as she continues to build up her fitness.

“Today the plan was for her to get 45 minutes,” she said.

“I think she didn’t have a proper pre-season so we are trying now to build her up for the next games.

“I think it was appropriate for her to get 45 minutes and hopefully she’ll be fine to probably be available for the game on Sunday.”

Bompastor admitted Chelsea’s performance was not at the level she wanted, but was pleased to secure all three points, thanks to Wieke Kaptein’s early goal.

“I think probably the performance is not the one we wanted to have,” she said.

“We could have controlled the game a little bit better in terms of maybe scoring the second goal or killing the opposition hope.

“But sometimes you need to also take what is the most important, and I think tonight was to win and to take the three points from the game.”
